Nearly Nightly - Page 7 - Nicks view of the world

Since I go many weeks without picking up my camera I figured something needed to be done about it. I have no illusions that I will actually do this ever day but I'll at least give it a try. Who knows, maybe I'll learn something along the way, or you might learn something about me.

There are no set rules for me to do this but I'll force myself to be in at least some of the photos since I'm never in any pictures.

This morning I donated blood and instead of donating whole blood I did a doble red blood cell donation. What that means is they hook you up to an Alyx machine and it takes your blood, separates the red blood cells and returns the plasm back to your body. The needle is smaller but the donation takes a little longer. You also need to wait twice as long before you can donate blood again.

All day I've been exhausted. I don't know if it was from giving blood or from my constant lack of sleep. Whatever the cause I've been ready for a nap since about 1PM this afternoon.

I have mixed feelings about technology sometimes. On one hand I've met some really wonderful people and made great friends from around the world. I've also been able to keep in touch with old friends that have moved away or that I just don't get to see often. But on the other hand I can't help feeling that I'm missing the human and emotional aspect of seeing people face to face.

Communication isn't just words coming out of your mouth. I think much of it is how you say those words and act while saying them. You lose meaning when you can't see facial expressions, hear inflections of someones voice or just look into someones eyes. It seems the more connected I am with the world through cell phones, text messages, forums, e-mails, myspace, and whatever else is out there the less I'm actually connecting with those I'm speaking with.

Maybe I wouldn't feel this way if I actually saw my friends more often but these days it feels like the only time I get to talk to them is remotely. Working at night has it's advantages but keeping in touch with loved ones isn't one of them.

Cards
On Tuesday nights my friend works at the bar so we get together and play cards. Can you figure out what game we're playing?

Haircut
I got a haircut on Saturday after I took Saturday's picture but you couldn't really tell from Sundays picture. Personally I could care less what my hair looks like but it was just getting too hot with the weather warming up. So after 9 months I finally got a haircut.

The only room with good light in my apartment is the bathroom. I used the 50 f/1.4 at f/2 sitting on the window sill in the shower. I would not suggest doing a SP at f/2. The DOF is just too small and I was lucky to get my eye in focus.

I got of my butt today and went for a bike ride. I enjoy riding through the woods and should really do it more. For a while I was doing 10 miles a day a couple days a week but that was a couple years ago and I'm starting over from scratch. I would like to be abe to do 40-50 miles in a day but for now I'll settle with 5.

So this is me in all my glory on a Saturday morning at 9:30AM. I am soo not a morning person. 9AM for me is like 5AM for most normal people. This is the first self portrait I have ever done. It's a bit different having to set the camera up and use the self timer. I'm sure I'l get the hang of it. Until then don't mind my missed focus.
